It can be easy to overwhelm yourself trying to scrape together just the right number of credits needed to maintain your professional certifications. But, as you know, this mindset is problematic for two reasons. For one, as new best practices emerge, technologies evolve and the talent war wages on, recruitment and human resources professionals must stay at the top of their game to remain competitive.

And secondly, professional certification courses aren’t the end-all-be-all of professional development: there’s tremendously useful (but non-credit-earning) content out there.

So, we’ve put together a list of the web’s best free courses and online training sessions for you, so that you can stay on top of best practices, trends, and techniques for talent acquisition.

  1. Recruiting, Hiring, and Onboarding Employees” (Length: 4 weeks of study, 3-5 hours/week)
    Taught by Amy Falink, a lecturer at the Carlson School of Management, and Stacy Doepner-Hove, Director, Masters in Human Resources and Industrial Relations program, this university-level course is geared toward HR and recruiting professionals who want to strengthen their knowledge of hiring fundamentals.

    The course’s newest installment, currently in-session, launched May 22 but is still open for enrollment. This course is rated by past students with an average of 4.6/5 stars. This course takes students through a syllabus that covers candidate sourcing, candidate selection, and candidate onboarding.     This is a free video-based course, hosted on the Udemy platform, created by industry leader Josh Bersin, Founder and Principal at Bersin by Deloitte, a research and advisory services firm. Over 18,000 students have enrolled in this video-based course and rated it 4.4/5 stars. The course’s curriculum isn’t specific to recruitment and hiring, but instead, takes a holistic look at talent management and includes sections such as Talent Acquisition, Performance Management, Engagement and Retention, Continuous Learning, Global Leadership, and Big Data & Analytics.
  3. Top 3 Recruiting Mistakes to Avoid(Length: 61 Minutes)
    This hour-long training webinar features research from International Data Corporation (IDC) along with Glassdoor to give you the inside track on three major recruiting mistakes to avoid. This webinar is chock full of useful data points and trends that will help you make better decisions when it comes to your hiring strategy. Because it’s a higher-level webinar, it may be better suited for HR and recruiting leadership roles.
  4. Hiring Essentials: Recruiting Secrets and Strategies for Building Winning Teams(Length: ~1hr) RedKite’s Jennifer Bouman-Steagall shares actionable guidance on how to interview candidates with everything from how to avoid a candidate’s oversharing to red flags to watch out for that might indicate a less-than-idea hire. Bouman-Steagall offers the audience tactics and phrases to use to maximize the interview’s value while minimizing liabilities, making this a great training session for anyone who may facilitate an interview.
  5. “WorkConnect by SAP 3-Part Virtual Workshop Series: The Secret to Hiring Effectively (and Staying Sane)” (Length: (3) 25-minute segments)
    Take a crash course in competitive hiring with this three-part recorded webinar series featuring experts Mark Babbitt and Hannah Morgan. Each of the three segments is roughly twenty-five minutes long, making it the perfect way to sharpen your hiring skills without a huge time commitment. You’ll focus on three specific areas: designing your recruiting process, interviewing and then onboarding your new employees.
  6. Growth mindset and happiness – The secret to recruiting top talent” (Length: 47 Minutes)
    Laughology CEO Stephanie Davies outlines the difference between people with a fixed mindset and a growth mindset.
